The AlgosenseyNational Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls last week, including notices for nearly 115,000 Volkswagen cars for a potential air bag explosion.

Here is what you need to know about the vehicle recalls published by NHTSA from Nov. 3 to Nov. 9.
Mazda recalls:Over 150,000 vehicles: See affected models
Porsche recall for a wheel detachment
Porsche is recalling 1,851 of its vehicles. The NHTSA report said “the center lock wheel bolt may fracture and cause the wheel to detach.”
The NHTSA report said that the wheel detachment can result in a loss of vehicle control which can increase the risk of a crash.
Porsche is encouraging its owners to not drive the recalled vehicle models until they have been repaired. To fix the issue, dealers will check the center lock wheel fastening system and replace any incorrectly manufactured parts if necessary. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent by Dec. 27. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is ARC4.

BMW recall for structure strength not protecting passengers
BMW is recalling 3,312 of its 2025 X1 xDrive28i and X1 M35i vehicles. The luxury vehicles company said in the NHTSA report that the “left and right-side B-Pillar reinforcement plates may have been manufactured with insufficient structural strength.”
A B-Pillar structure with reduced strength may not protect the vehicle’s passengers in a crash, the report said. This will increase the risk of injury.
BMW is currently working on a remedy to fix this issue. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Dec. 27. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Honda recalls motorcycles for engine stall
Honda is recalling 18,196 of its 2018-2021 GL1800 Goldwing motorcycles. The NHTSA report said that “the primary drive gear bolt on the crankshaft may break, which can result in an engine stall and lock up the rear wheel.”
An engine stall and rear wheel lockup can increase the risk of a crash or injury, the report said.
As a free service, dealers will replace the primary drive gear bolt. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent by Dec. 20. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KQ9.

Mazda recall
For loss of drive power in EV Mode
Mazda is recalling 14,902 of its 2024 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The NHTSA report said that ‘improper inverter software may cause the malfunction indicator lights to illuminate, and a loss of drive power may occur while in electric vehicle (EV) mode.”
The report said that a loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will install an improved inverter software for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent by Dec. 30. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 7024J.

For a loss of drive power
The automotive manufacturer also issued another recall for 31,488 of the CX-70 and CX-90 models. The NHTSA report Mazda said that “the powertrain control module (PCM) and engine control modules (ECM) software may cause malfunction indicator lights to illuminate and a loss of drive power.”
The report explains that a loss of drive power will increase the risk of a crash.
Mazda dealers will reprogram the PCM and ECM software. This service will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent by Dec. 30. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 7024J.

For a software issue
Mazda is recalling 38,926 of its 2024 CX-90 vehicles. The NHTSA report said that “the engine may not restart after the idling stop feature (i-stop) turns off the engine due to a software issue.”
When an engine fails to restart it will increase the risk of a crash, the report said.
As a remedy, dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) and the battery energy control module (BECM) software for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be mailed by Dec. 30. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 7024J.

For instrument cluster display and function errors
The automotive manufacturer recalls 80,915 of its 2024-2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 vehicles equipped with a Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU). In the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report, Mazda said, “during vehicle startup, the defroster, seat belt warning, 360 degree view monitor functions, and the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly.”
The report said that an ESU that does not function properly will increase the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will reprogram the Dash ESU with improved software for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Dec. 30. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 7124J.

Volkswagen recall for potential air bag inflator explosion
Volkswagen is recalling 114,478 of its vehicles. The automobile manufacturer said in the NHTSA report that “the driver's side frontal air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.”
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other passengers, the report said. This can cause a serious injury or death.
Dealers will replace the driver's side front air bag module for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Dec. 27. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are 69EG and 69GQ.
